[Activity] Push it to the Limit ((open))

Postby Nailah Weaver » Fri Jan 31, 2020 7:00 pm

Nailah is in the Danger Room, wearing her full hero outfit. She's loaded up what's essentially three tennis ball throwers some distance away from her. Facing away from them she takes a couple deep breaths.

"Start program. Ten minutes to start." The computer dings in response and only a couple seconds later the first tennis-ball fires. Nailah tilts her body to the side and dodges it. What follows is a series of balls fired at seemingly random intervals from one of the machines as she ducks and weaves out of the way. After about three minutes of this the computer seems to start trying to fake her out, shooting two balls in rapid succession, making the firing sound without actually firing, then following it up with one launched in complete silence. She takes a couple hits, most of them just grazing, but soon the program seems to have narrowed in even more, catching her in the middle of a breath or when her footing shifts a little and she doesn't have the right traction to move fast enough. And soon the room has dialed in on the way she moves and balls are being fired to where she's going to be, at which point she starts taking hits at a steady pace, which only puts her off her game more, followed by being hit by more shots. The last minute or so has her basically just dodging from one hit into the next, wincing and stumbling until the program concludes with a merciful ding.

"Restart the program in five to ten minutes, random timing."

At some interval far less than five minutes, several tennis balls strewn on the floor around her started vibrating then slowly rising into the air, swirling around Nailah from some distance away as the lights began to dim. The Jaws theme began blasting over the speakers shortly thereafter.

Meanwhile Haley giggled from the control room.

Nailah narrows her eyes suspiciously at the orbiting tennis-balls, then seems to realize what must be happening.

"Ha ha, very funny." she chuckles. "Who is this? Will? Janice?"

Haley cackled into the mic as she tapped a few buttons and the balls started to swoop towards Nailah menacingly (but generally nowhere close to actually hitting her).

"I have a hard time picturing you getting your butt kicked at all to be honest. You're kind of a badass." she offered. "But if you want me to experiment with you to see if we can figure stuff out, we totally can."

After a beat, a sudden smirk cracked her face.

"Phrasing," she giggled.

"Okay a, you can't set yourself up for a phrasing joke." Nailah snorts out a laugh. "And b, that's cause of my carefully curated image of being extremely dope."

"But seriously. I got spanked. It was like I saw what was going to happen but then the timing was all wrong. Like missing one step on the treadmill and suddenly you gotta hustle just to even begin to try and get back and I just couldn't do it fast enough to get ahead of it."

"Well, you're a precog, right? It'll probably be a bunch of choosing the correct door and stuff like that. Or dodging things without visual clues. Oh, and you'll probably have to, like, fly through some rings or something? People seem to like flying through rings on these things."

It's clear Zandra doesn't actually know what's on everyone's individual tests.

"No, I don't think so. She just got very... methodical? Moving like... clockwork! Not, like, mechanical but that's what it was! Like everything's in a perfect rhythm. Ooh that's why she's got the marching band uniform!" Nailah slaps her forehead with sudden realization and kind of forgetting her cover story for a moment.

"Uhm... I mean, she likes to wear it a lot now." she adds with an awkward grin.
