[Activity] Quality Family Time

Postby Robin Stanton » Tue Feb 07, 2023 4:10 pm

Robin's in the Danger Room, a strange kind of sparring ring loaded. There's the regular ring but without the elastic ropes, only the corner bollards. The ground appears to be metal and humming with a low-current that'd be mildly tingly to the average person but poses a potential (hah) problem for the two Stanton shifters. Balance beams and parallel bars hang from the ceiling like some kind of upside-down gymnastics area. Scattered around the metal floor are a bunch of different objects, ranging from dumbbells to folding chairs to a large stuffed animal and everything in between, scattered around on the floor and the occasional dais of non-metal ground. The walls look inconspicuous at first but the trained eye might recognize the seams of panels where 'classic' Danger Room spike panels, lasers, tasers and robotic appendages are lieing in wait.

Robin herself is in the middle of the ring, going through some stretches that belie her currently fairly 'normal' look. Joints and bones don't usually give this much leeway.

Will came in next, in his full-on X-Team gear; limbering up himself by rotating his arms -- you know, like someone would normally do when stretching, only in a much more unnatural, 360-degree motion. Kinesthesiologists hate this one weird trick!

He hopped from non-metal dais to non metal dais, making his way towards the ring slowly but surely. "Going all out, are we?" he asked, mentally cataloging the various objects Robin had prepared for herself.

"Hey, this is gonna be the last one for a while, might as well make it count, yeah? I'll beat you onw day, old man, and that day could be today!" she grins, bouncing in place on the balls of her feet. Sure, she's occasionally won the games they played, especially hide and go seek, but overall Will was still ahead of her and she'd never beaten him in an all-out sparring match. It doesn't help that she shares many of the same weaknesses which makes it hard to exploit electricity or sonic waves without being affected herself. "Bet you're all kinds of rusty from taking a billion-year nap." she nods.

Robin hops to the side like she's just dancing like a butterfly, but instead she collapses into a blob, shooting back up as a giant fist. While it might be relatively new in Robin's repertoire, Will has seen this move plenty of times executed by Sara, though she usually just utilizes the ground while staying in place herself whereas Robin is throwing herself straight at Will in a big diagonal upwards punch.

Will leans back, at an essentially impossible angle. From the knees down, he stays standing, but the rest of him limbos backwards almost flat, bending at a 270 degree angle to bring him out of the way of the upwards-flowing punch.

A punch that normally would have gone way wide, but instead Robin turns into a cartoonish metal weight, arresting most of her forward and upward momentum by sheer inertia and dropping straight down towards Will.

Will continued to limbo himself out of the way, though he couldn't quite get fully free from the falling weight. Robin landed hard on Will's legs, flattening them to the floor with a wet squelch. The short-lived victory there may be somewhat undercut, however, by the fact that Will was twisting his torso to come back, arcing around, to come down on top of Robin with his arms melding and merging into a massive sledgehammer as they swung down.

Robin's shifting is slower than Will's, especially when she's turned into something rigid so when she tries to turn herself into rubber to make the hammer bounce off of her she succeeds in the material but not he shape, in her hurry defaulting to the simplest one, a sphere. Which gets hammered but in bouncing back the attack to arc into the ground opposite of her and sends her careening away with the equivalent force, splatting her against the far wall. With a groan she partially reshapes, then absorbs into the wall panel before the spike-trap inside of it is triggered. One of the room's laser arms would probably be a better offensive weapon but those use quite a bit of electricity and working around that is always difficult. And slow. The more mechanical something is the easier for her to commandeer it. Like the section of wall she's now causing to extend and bend left and right a little, lining up on Will and firing off one of it's hidden spikes like a javelin.

Will, whose legs were still reforming after being squashed, swayed out of the way from the first spike, like a cobra stalking it's prey. However, for the moment, he seemed to stuck in place as he swayed back and forth, providing a moving target for Robin's spikes.

Robin fires a whole salvo of spikes, letting quantity do most of the aiming so she can leap out of the top of the protruding wall panel. Hold a spike she pulled out of the wall with her she hops onto a higher spot on the wall to cling to with big gecko hands and feet, coil her legs into a double-helix spring and leap up to one of the upside-down balance beams. With Will hopefully distracted enough to delay the reconstitution of his legs she uncoils her legs, wraps them tightly around the beam a good 3 or 4 four feet apart and starts pulling the rest of herself back along the ceiling. With herself as an improvised slingshot she lets go of the ceiling and fires the javelin-spike towards Will. But instead of letting go of the projectile she releases the balance beam, letting herself get flung as well and absorb into the javelin, making it grow little flight-stabilizers and correcting her aim mid-flight.

Robin's tactic had not distracted enough to stop Will from reconstituting his legs, but it took enough time for him to do so that Robin could shoot directly at him!

Or, well, where he was. Stretching himself up and larger, Will opened a hole in his chest for the javelin to fly through, attempting to smack it with a backhand as it sailed by.

And smack it he did, sending it clattering harmlessly to the floor. The electrified floor. That seemed to not force Robin out of it.

Because the clever shifter has leapt out from it right as it passed through Will and is now crouched in the (potential) blindspot that is inside of Will. "Too slow, old man!" she cackles and morphs into a giant pufferfish, promptly expanding herself out into a big spiky ball multiple times her original size.

The hammer mostly just swings right through between her legs, but the momentum makes her tumble forward, back first, rolling off the edge of the ring. Lashing out with one arm, elongating like a whip she manages to curl it around one of the ring's corner pillars, one foot still perched on the very edge of the ring and swinging out until she's nearly horizontal, hanging above the floor faintly humming with electricity.

Will released Robin, reforming in the center of the ring, and followed it up with a rapid kick to Robin's midsection, taking advantage of her precarious position. That wasn't a move he used much in the past; it was probably something he picked up watching military people for decades!

Robin tries to swing out of the way but only partially succeeds, taking a kick on the side of her stomach and making her lose her grip. She tries to turn herself into a ball as she falls, bouncing off the floor but not before getting a taste of the electrical current. The 'ball' contracts and flails as it bounces, losing cohesion and splatting onto one of those stackable gymnastics boxes, weakly forming pseudopods to grip and try to pull herself up all the way.

That was the presumption, at least, but tendrils shot out of the ball at the last minute, supporting it on several of the floating islands as long, weird, gangly legs. The ball-with-legs then tried to keep it's balance as it began to make it's way back towards Robin!

Meanwhile Robin once again goes sailing through the air. The metal hammers at the end of her arms narrow and flatten into spear-points as she tries to throw them straight up, arms extending behind them, to try and tether herself to the ceiling. One of them plinks off but the other manages to wedge itself in the seam between two panels. Robin comes to a sudden stop that tests the hold of the spear to it's limits, her feet less than an inch from the floor. She can practically feel the sparks reaching out and trying to bridge the gap as she dangles.
