Can you see the Darkness when the Sun shines?

[Ryn]

"Part of the fun is in ending them." she points out. For most this would be an admission, but to Ryn it's a simple statement of fact.

[Samantha McManus]

"I can see why that would be satisfying, but it sounds like it gets lonely."

[Ryn]

"Why does everyone think I'm lonely?" Ryn huffs. 'Everyone' in this case being a whole two people but the circle of people Ryn talks to is not exactly huge. Which some might argue should answer her own question.

[Samantha McManus]

"We did preface this with you telling me you're pining after someone."

[Ryn]

"That's different." she says and finds it's the truth, though perhaps not in the way she initially meant it. She'd truly be fine if she found a place where she'd never see a single human again, but if that included Katarina... She'd let herself be bothered by humans and pestering Wyldclays if it means being around Katarina. The realization is quite obvious on her face, especially when her glasses don't hide part of it.

"Odd to realize something's changed, isn't it?" Sam asks, still not bothered by the deva's unnerving eyes.

"Makes you wonder what you missed."

"Now where is that bloody..." she mutters, "...ah!"

She picks up a collar from the ground and goes to slip it on.

[Ryn]

Ryn eyes Sam as she goes to pick up her glasses. She's unchanging, eternal, so obviously Sam must be wrong. She's just not entirely sure in what ways.

She does have one foot firmly planted in the world of humans. Case in point, her clothes (or 'fashion' as Katarina calls it) including a piece that can't possibly serve any purpose. If anything it's a potential vulnerability. But the Siren does care about these kinds of things so maybe she should at least try to learn a little.

"Why do you wear that?"

[Narrator]

Will, as a collar, didn't say much. That'd be distracting for Sam, and not exactly what his role was in this form. Instead, he spent most of his time just kind of sending out positive vibes of contentment and satisfaction; sort of a telepathic equivalent of an aromatherapy candle that telepaths could tap into when stressed.

That signal would be lost to anyone who didn't have creepy mind powers, leaving it, to Ryn's eyes, just being a peculiar fashion statement of leather and lace, around the neck of a goddess.

[Samantha McManus]

"Bit of a long story. Like a lot of them it's about a girl."

[Ryn]

"Ah. It is fashion. Smart not to wear it during a fight." she nods.

[Samantha McManus]

"I've an outfit that can take all that shapeshifting, but this isn't it."

[Ryn]

"Does your... girlfriend like fashion?" She has figured out that it's part of human mating rituals at least some of the time though any understanding of it's actual applications or intricacies continues to elude her.

[Samantha McManus]

"Hard to get Theresa into a dress, even when we go to a club. Still, there's other things we enjoy. Vivienne is a bit more open to it."

"And Miriam? Miriam lives for it."

[Ryn]

Ryn is confused for a moment but thinking about it it only makes sense that the Morrigan would have three consorts.

"How does it work? Fashion. There's... rules to it?"

[Samantha McManus]

"Well there's places some outfits work better than others, aye? If you're going dancing you're probably not going to want your movement restricted too much, unless it's ballroom dancing."

[Ryn]

Ryn already regrets asking. Apparently there are different kinds of dancing too. It wasn't enough for humans to make one thing complicated, they had to tie it to an ever growing tangle of non-sense.

"But what is the point?"

[Samantha McManus]

"I mean there isn't any one point other than they'll lock you up if you walk around naked enough."

"You have to know what you're trying to get out of it. Sometimes you want to blend in, sometimes you want to catch someone's eye."

[Ryn]

Blending in is easy enough and given what she knows about Katarina she reckons her interest in fashion is more due to the later. Bright colors and attention. Ryn couldn't imagine a more horrifying situation to find herself in. Much less putting herself in it on purpose. But Katarina cares about it and Ryn can't argue with the fact that she likes it better when Katarina dresses how she wants to rather than the suits of the Agency. At least it's kind of beginning to make sense.

"Camouflage or drawing attention." she nods. But those aren't the only things animals do. She can hardly imagine adopting mimicry. As far as Ryn is concerned things that want to survive should be making themselves look more like her if anything. But there's one more thing. The broadcasting of danger. Ultimately pointless, avoiding fights is not something she really wants, but to make it less likely humans she doesn't care for (ie most of them) will approach and bother her? That she can almost get behind.

"And it helps to know what the person you're trying to get to notice you would appreciate, aye?"

[Will Stanton]

It helps when they give you the item to begin with

[Ryn]

"Which is... what they wear?" That doesn't seem entirely right. At the very least Ryn feels like her kind of drawing attention would or should not match Katarina's.

[Samantha McManus]

"Doesn't she have an outfit you like to see her in? Or haven't you seen a person wearing something and imagined her in it?"

[Ryn]

She had, in a way, but only at the Wyldclay's prodding and she wouldn't really call that clothes. More a lack of them.

"No." she says, though the allusion to some recording of Katarina performing in clothes of some kind still hangs in the back of her mind. "Maybe. I don't think I would want to dress like her."

[Samantha McManus]

"What would catch her eye with you wearing it isn't necessarily what she likes to wear, aye?"

[Ryn]

"Humans make everything so complicated." she huffs. "Where can I look at fashion?"

[Samantha McManus]

"...well, if you wanted to experiment I could take you back to... the mirror." She says, ominously enough.

[Ryn]

"Does it show examples of human-fashion?" she asks, picking up on something about this mirror being special. They have rectangles full of images here after all.

[Samantha McManus]

"Better than that," she says, heading toward the dorms. "Hard to explain, but easy to show."

[Ryn]

Ryn shrugs and follows after her.
