I2DT: Nothing out of the ordinary.

The site of the recently restored Braddock Lighthouse. Aircraft hangars and other X-Men facilities, including a Cerebra unit and the Danger Room have been constructed around the foundations of the lighthouse.

I2DT: Nothing out of the ordinary.

It's late at night and Miss Kinney is walking the halls of the facilities under the point.

At least it looks like Miss Kinney. She seems a bit less focused than she usually is.

"Come on, it's down here somewhere, I know it is..."

The Point is kind of spooky this late at night. The corridors are dark except for the faint glow of blue emergency lights. The central area where the corridors converge is empty but some of the screens are still lit up, displaying data and the occasional piece of footage. One in particular seems to be showing some kind of news segment from the US.

Miss Kinney glances at the television for a moment, distracted. Then, her eyes widen.

"W-Will? No, have to stay on task..."

Ultimately, she picks a corridor that looks to be heading somewhere fairly secured, figuring that can't be far wrong.

Ultimately she reaches a door that had been left out of the orientation she'd gotten about the Point as part of the teams. There's a small panel next to the imposing door that has room for a fingerprint-reader as well as a small lens that Sam may or may not recognize as a retina-scanner.

"Okay, how did they do it at Muir? Right..."

Miss Kinney places her hand on the palm scanner, and lowers her eye to bring it level with the retina scanner.

The small panel lights up and a narrow beam of light shines at 'Laura's' eye. For a long couple of seconds nothing happens, then there's a faint beep and with a mechanical hum the doors twist and slide apart to reveal a dark chamber behind them.

There's no lightswitch. However, when she steps into the room the lights turn on by themselves, illuminating what looks like a big, technological coccoon in the middle of a big domed room. The capsule is translucent on the top-half of it and is cradled in all kinds of wires and tubes and important mechanical looking things. As the lights slowly turn on the top half of the capsule slowly slides back. Inside is a comfortable-looking seat and not much else.

Her footsteps echo in the large chamber but other than that nothing else happens. When she gets within a couple feet of the capsule a couple of steps unfold from it, almost inviting her to climb inside.

Once she sits down the capsule begins to slide close, steps folding back in. Once everything settles into place the lights dim and then... nothing. At least at first until she notices that the capsule is slowly filling with what looks like neon-blue liquid that's ever so slightly viscous around her feet, calves, then her knees...

Er... right. This is supposed to happen, right? It's like something to conduct brain waves. And there's probably... a mask or something?

She looks around overhead, fumbling for a breathing mask to pull on.

Miss Kinney then starts banging on the chamber walls in a most undignified manner. It's probably not going to do much good, since she doesn't actually have an adamantium skeleton.

Oh, crap. Crap, crap, crap. This is it. I snuck in here and now I'm going to drown in this stupid machine that probably isn't actually Cerebra and is used for something else and I'm so dead...

As she's banging on the walls she might be able to see the vague shape of a person walking into the room, heading towards the capsule. And that's when the liquid displaces what little air was left.

Holding in her last breath, she looks around, eyes wide.

Think, think! Gills? Did gills with Murphy once before...

It's hard to concentrate through the panic, but she starts to fitfully shift into Murphy's form, with the gills they'd both sported in the Danger Room.

That actually kind of works. Not super well and she still kind of feels kind of out of breath. Like breathing through a straw, although the volume of liquid she's pulling through her gills is adequate.

The figure outside is just standing there for a moment, watching Sam panic and then calm down a bit. Then the capsule suddenly opens, spilling the liquid (and Sam with it) out onto the floor. Ashlie steps back a little to not get splashed too much by the liquid, sternly looking at Sam and waiting for her to regain her composure.

Sam, in Murphy's form, collapses onto the floor and gasps, not expecting to have to breathe air again so soon. She's basically drowning on dry land for a moment before her body at least figures out what to do, shifting back into herself.

She's panting as she looks up at the Headmistress.

...maybe I should've just drowned.

"I... I can explain..."

"...okay, there's more to it than that."

"My roommate might be in trouble. Like big trouble. And I tried to get her to talk to the faculty, but she doesn't trust them because she thinks you'll lock her up at Muir again. And I'm afraid that if the faculty went after her she'd just run."

"She's got the Brotherhood sniffing around for her, and some sort of... Russian government program that wants her back?"

"And I just... I remembered hearing this machine was down here, and I thought I could use it to find her."

Ashlie patiently waits for Sam to finish rambling.

"It's Cerebra and you were doing fine until you panicked. If you think you can handle the machine then get back inside, breathe in the liquid. Considering the data Muir send us, however, I would advise against it. You have trouble with large crowds. This will place you in a crowd larger than any you've ever encountered and I cannot safely terminate the system once the telepathic amplifiers are engaged. I understand the desire to help your friend, but this would come at a very high risk to your own well-being."
