To the X-Plane!

The site of the recently restored Braddock Lighthouse. Aircraft hangars and other X-Men facilities, including a Cerebra unit and the Danger Room have been constructed around the foundations of the lighthouse.

To the X-Plane!

Postby Narrator » Fri Jul 01, 2016 5:38 pm

In the early afternoon on Saturday after the Halloween party an alert goes out to all the members of the X-Teams, asking anybody available to meet in the hangar directly to help with a developing emergency.

Anybody on their way to the hangar would notice the screens in the point displaying a news program.

BBC wrote:Today at 1300 hours the Royal British Navy lost contact with a Destroyer out on a routine training deployment in the Atlantic near Ireland. Only a brief emergency transmission was recorded before it was cut off, but a loud detonation was heard near the coast. The current assumption is a training accident, but so far the military has not denied the possibility of a terrorist attack....

Will, aimless and spacey, wandered into the hanger.

I mean, presumably he had heard about the alarm, but he didn't really seem...altogether there.

There's very little information on the phone beyond 'Emergency situation off the coast of Ireland' although as people gather and head for the QuinJet's lowered rear hatch Ashlie hurries down from inside, standing off to the side. She's wearing her usual suit and no headset but with the amount of circuitry she's shown at the Halloween party it's probably not a huge shock that she doesn't really need either.

"We don't know much, I'm trying to get in contact with people who do, but it seems no one's really sure what happened. The Royal Navy's HMS Dauntless was out on a training exercise and stopped responding about an hour ago. The last transmission was the beginning of an emergency code but then changed to an all clear and radio silence. They got a recon helicopter out there after the coast guard reported an explosion and it just disappeared, no radio contact, nothing. The ship's still on radar so we know it's out there but they're hesitant to send anything else into an unknown situation. So instead we're going." she informs everyone while they board the plane.

Once everyone is seated the hangar doors open and the engine's roar to life, pressing everyone into their seats as the jet takes off and immediately goes into a tight curve that brings it about, the school and Maldon rushing past beneath them as they rapidly gain speed.

"I wish I had more for you, but that's about it." she calls back from the cockpit. "Any questions?"

"Do you suppose we'll drop out of radio contact?" he asked ASHLIE, cheerfully.

Ashlie quirks her eyebrow slightly at how jovial Will is apparently being towards her but decides this isn't the time to bring it up.

"It's possible. But I like to think we're more capable than a recon helicopter."

"They lost a billion dollar state of the art warship right under their noses. They are understandably concerned. And it's important to remind the British government that they can count on us." she says, then after a brief pause adds "It may have been me contacting them and offering to help when I heard of the incident."

Re: To the X-Plane!

The green-brown smudge of the landscape rushing by underneath them is soon replaced by the grey of the North-Atlantic, growing rapidly closer as Ashlie brings the jet down, flying unsettlingly close to the waves. The destroyer takes a while to show up on radar and when it finally does it's quickly within visual range as well, the strange geometric tower of the modern ship rising above the waves next to a thick column of black smoke.

"There's nothing disrupting communications, but they're not answering. I'm getting some very odd readings, but the ship seems to be operational." she informs them as the plane slows down. "It's almost..." She trails off and as the QuinJet makes a turn to align itself with the landing pad on the ship's bow they can see that there appear to be a number of crewmen just kind of standing on deck, at the ready. The jet's engines angle downward as Ashlie brings the plane in for a pin-point landing, the plane's wings extending out over the width of the ship, landing gear narrowly fitting onto the deck. Ashlie has gone quiet, just staring ahead into nothing, presumably to make sure she sticks the landing. The rear hatch begins to open and hits the ship's deck with a dull thud, the whine of the engines spinning down still filling the air.

"Welcome aboard." Ashlie says in kind of a deadpan tone. Her humor is really not the best.

Outside they can see a group of crewmen taking up position as almost a phalanx, apparently ready to greet them?
