Sept 4th - X-Men Assemble

The site of the recently restored Braddock Lighthouse. Aircraft hangars and other X-Men facilities, including a Cerebra unit and the Danger Room have been constructed around the foundations of the lighthouse.

Sept 4th - X-Men Assemble

Postby Laura Kinney » Fri Jun 05, 2015 4:21 pm

X-23 is standing just inside the Danger Room, which is currently turned off and just looks like an empty room with metal paneling, waiting for the people who signed up for the teams to show up for their first taste of training.

((If you missed the sign-up thread you can still have your character show up and we'll say they signed up. Everyone's assumed to have been on time even if you're late to the thread, unless you make a point that your character is actually late.))

Carlos walked in, dressed in his gi.

He apparently had chosen not to wear the X-team training uniform at this point.

"Yellow is such a bad color," Tereza remarked as she came into the room in her uniform, looking around at the large metal structure with maybe just a bit of trepidation.

"Well, this is it," Sam says as she walks in. She's wearing a uniform that may look a little different than the others in terms of materials. It also lacks the team insignia and seems like it's been worn before.

"Everyone gets to watch me get my arse kicked," she says with a faint smirk.

"Alright then!" X-23 says loudly to cut through the chatter. "There'll be plenty of time for chit-chat later. For now we're gonna see what each of you can do so me and your team-mates know what to expect and what we have to work with. "Freckles, you're up." she looks at Sam and jerks her head towards the middle of the room.

"Computer, load up basic obstacle course Alpha." she says and the entire back-side of the room suddenly materializes an obstacle course full of narrow beams, padded pendulums, see-saws, monkey bars and rotating sections. The whole thing is standing in a big pool of water that occasionally shoots jets of water out across the course.

"I'll buy anybody who manages to finish their course a beer at the XUB afterwards. Now go!" she barks at Sam.

Sam starts running the course. She's not perfectly graceful, but she definitely seems to be getting farther and faster than would likely be reasonably expected of her. Then again, some of her dodges just look... off. They might be within the realm of human movement but they almost look like they should be painful, but she's not showing any signs of being in discomfort.

Of course, it wouldn't be a true Danger Room obstacle course if it wasn't full of traps and pitfalls. One of the sections that Sam jumps on to dodge a pendulum gives away underneath her feet!

"Fine, you want enthusiasm," she grins at X-23. And she takes off into the course. She actually pretty athletic and manages to handle some of the jumps and balancing fairly easily. The jets of water seem to freeze and bend away from her, allowing her to pretty much ignore them as her eyes glow white. Unfortunately, the pendulums are not made of water and a misjudged timing knocks her into the water about two-thirds of the way through the course. She comes out of the water, her eyes still glowing as the water on her crystallizes into ice and collects in her hand. "Next time," she grumbles.

Carlos stood up, and bowed to Laura before beginning.

Unlike the first two, his powers didn't seem to give him an edge running through the course. Instead, the visible flirtatious manner and casual walk vanished, with every movement he made looking pre-planned and well thought out as he started to make his way through the course.

He DID summon a staff once to knock a pendulum out of the way, and very nearly lost his footing at the end, only to catch himself with his bare feet on either side of a pit.

After Carlos, Onyx took a run at it as well! She had a great deal of practice with this sort of thing and seemed to handle it with a fluidity and grace provided by years of training as what amounts to a costumed child soldier.

Heck, at least on this course no one was shooting at her. Or trying to stab her with swords.

Or shooting swords at her. That was a weird night.

On the last platform, she was preparing to make the final leap when the platform collapsed. At the same time a blast of water shot towards her. Onyx twisted in mid-air and threw a line from her belt to another platform. She swung around the platform and back towards the end of the course, where she landed in a dramatic crouch before straightening up.

"Won't know unless you try," Michaela said, moving forward. She lunged into the course, shifting mid-lunge. For the most part, that served her well as her heads were able to function independently and seemed to help with her timing. There were times she had to shift back, but her balance was pretty good. She bounded over the last few platforms and exited the course.
