Tereza sits in the briefing room, feet propped up on the table and a keyboard in her lap as she uses one of the monitors to read some information. Another monitor shows a map of a location labeled as "Madripoor" and yet another monitor seems to be showing images that seem to change occasionally to accompany what she's reading.

Chase wandered in and curiously glanced at the monitors.

"What would you want with that stain on humanity?"

"Family business, maybe," she says, looking up. "You remember the cryokinetic we ran into in Crimea?"

"Of course," he nodded, "I take it you believe her story about being... well, your mother."

"Believe is probably too strong a word. I need more answers and I know she has associates in Madripoor."

"And you're hoping one of them can shed some light on her past?"

"I'm hoping I can get some confirmation. I'd rather know than not, I think."

"I can sympathize with that. There's a lot about my past I still don't remember. But..." he began before shaking off a distant look, "...most in Madripoor wouldn't give such information freely, even the vigilantes."

"Probably not, but Laura should be able to get some answers. She seems to know some of the people I need to talk to."

"Russia maybe? We're all kind of SOL there."

"True. So you're trying to find a starting point for her then?"

"Trying to make sure I'm not going in blind when I go with her."

"Right. That... makes more sense," he admitted.

"I went in blind once and everyone here got to pay the price for that. Not happening again."

"Maybe not. But going off alone felt right at the time didn't it?" he asked, his own poorly thought solo 'mission' having turned out alright.

"To go into a controlled city, yeah, more or less."

"It's difficult, isn't it? Remembering you have a team to back you... that would be upset and hurt if you never came back."

"I have someone who insists on coming along on things, even when it would probably be better if she didn't. I'm not sure she'd understand how hard it is to make *smart* decisions when she's around or how hard it is to do the bad things that need doing where she can see."

"Is that because you feel guilty in front of her or because you don't want to... darken her?"

"Yes," Tereza says, leaning back in her chair.

Tereza shrugs, "I don't know, but I'm afraid I might be."

"Are you... afraid the bad things you've done, no matter how little choice you may have had... are more a part of you than you want anyone to know?" he asked, hesitant to put words to the idea.

"Something like that. At the time, I even thought I was doing them for the right reasons," Tereza says, fidgeting with the edge of the keyboard.

"I suppose we can form our own support group then," Tereza says, trying to lighten the mood ever so slightly. "I guess I keep trying to tell myself this place is my second chance."

"I guess that's one of the things I struggle with. Especially since I was bitten. Violence feels good... it's where I feel at home. Maybe I just need to pick up my guitar again, try to lean on something else in addition to the violence."
