The Monster Mash

The site of the recently restored Braddock Lighthouse. Aircraft hangars and other X-Men facilities, including a Cerebra unit and the Danger Room have been constructed around the foundations of the lighthouse.

Charles would have rolled his eyes at what he was seeing, but it didn't really come across. He shifted again into something more suited for brawling with swarms of mechanoids (middle for reference).

"Should consider joining the teams," Charles rumbled his new form sounding more like rocks smacking together than anything else.

The countdown in the sky hit 10 seconds remaining before the next wave.

"You totally should," Bruce agreed with a nod, not noticing minor flirtations any better than his nerdy counterpart would, "I'm sure we'll face a real horde of robots to smash sooner or later."

the timer in the sky hit zero and more robots appeared. This time there were three large quadrupedal robots with groups of the smaller humanoid robo-zombies milling around. The large quadrupeds appeared to be bruiser, Slow but heavily armored. The robo-zombie versions milled in six 'squads' centered around what looked like bulkier robo-zombie leaders. The 'leaders' had armor covering joints, neckguards, and reinforced limbs.

Things were looking a bit more challenging this time.

Stephanie's eyes took on a more feral gleam once again as she began to size up the situation, a low growl escaping her lips. She saw a stop sign nearby, dashed towards it, and wrenched it free, a jagged, torn metal spear in her hands. She rushed forward, following Tosh and hoping that his lighting ball cleared a path to the leader of the group he'd targeted so she could stab it.

The squad moved rapidly to form a shield between the ball of lightning and their leader. This of course protected the leader, but didn't stop the carnage as the robots making up the 'meat' shield blew apart as massive amounts of electricity overloaded power systems. Units that were still moving to intercept the lightning ball lost limbs as debris flew from those who made up the shield.

The shield getting annihilated certainly helped Stephanie who found herself a nice open lane to the leader. Unlike the others the robo-leader moved in a much more coordinated fashion and blocked Stephanie's attempt to stab it with an armored forearm. The stop sign scraping down the arm resulted in a stream of sparks and left a long gash down the robo-leader's arm in it's wake. The robot responded by grabbing at and trying to wrench the stop sign free from Stephanie's grasp with its free hand.

Other leaders also began to mobilize in response to Bruce's explosive opening salvo and Stephanie's furious charge. The robot squads organized and formed ranks before marching quickly towards the pair. However, one unfortunate squad found itself intercepting a car that Charles had thrown taking out the front rank of robots and slowing that squad down. Charles charged towards that group hoping to prevent Stephanie and Bruce from getting overwhelmed. However, there were still two full-strength squads descending upon Stephanie and Bruce.

Much more slowly moving behind the advancing robo-zombie/roboo-leader squads were the brutes who seemed for some reason slow to awaken to the nearby threat.

Steph managed to hold onto the stop sign for long enough that it got bent into a mostly useless L shape before she let it go with a frustrated snarl. Her ears picked up the sound of ever more things advancing on her and Tosh and her eyes darted around looking for an escape. She saw it in Tosh, bolted for him, and happily used his boost to launch herself skyward and towards the large robot, looking to scramble over it and try and wrench free as much armor as she could to expose weak bits underneath.

The robo leader was left holding the L shaped sign as Stephanie broke through the crowd and then launched herself through the air with Tosh's assistance. The robo-brute reacted rather slowly to being clambered over and much to Stephanie's delight the panels came off somewhat easily once she found a seam. The armor being intended to stop blunt forces and bullets not super strong werewolves doing their best crow bar impersonation. The brute reached for Stephanie, but it was somewhat obvious that they weren't designed to combat this particular tactic as it could only reach her tail.

Smaller robots turned to help the brute and began walking away from Tosh. The leader advanced on Tosh throwing the L shaped stop sign as he did so. Another leader stood by apparently directing those intent on attacking Stephanie.

Charles emitted a rather loud screeching sound before... vomiting forth a spray of green caustic slime onto a robo leader and a few nearby robo-zombies. Whatever it was the robots began to dissolve away almost immediately leaving mostly dissolved husks after only a few moments. He was cut off from the others, but both sides seemed to have things relatively under control. The remaining brutes began to advance as well though they had difficulty getting through the crowds of smaller robots.

Bruce caught the sign and smirked. "Really? That's the best you got?" he asked before biting the end off and spitting the red octagon onto the pavement, leaving him with a jagged edged L-shaped spike.

His bioelectric membranes began to glow and crackle with current as he stomped for the leader, weapon lashing at the robot.

The robot managed to yank Steph's tail which elicited a pained yelp from her as she slammed chest-first into the thing's shoulder, knocking the wind out of her slightly. She was dragged downward for a moment, nails screeching across the metal unpleasantly. She tried to wrap her thighs around the thing to slow her slide down and reached for another seam to tear away more armor and rip into cables and hydraulics within.

There was a spray of hydraulic fluid and sparks as Stephanie tore out several wires and other important looking pieces as she slid down. One of the arms of the robo-brute gave out fairly quickly though whether it was an electrical or hydraulics problem was anybody's guess. The robot tried again grab her again with the not disable arm. In the meantime one of the smaller robo-zombies had reached the foot of the robo brute and began climbing it. It wasn't in range of Stephanie yet, but once it found it's foot it would be.

The robot blocked the first blow it's arm buckling with the impact. It then lashed out with a punch in return hoping more to delay Tosh then to defeat him. Perhaps though the robo-leader felt some inkling of fear or perhaps was recalculating because some of the robo-zombies turned back towards Tosh.

Charles in the meantime blocked an overhead blow from a brute and the asphalt cracked beneath him. He lashed out in return breaking the brute's arm off at the elbow causing his attacker to back away, but was still forced to retreat Tosh and Stephanie as over a squad of smaller robo-zombies pressed in on him. His chest glowed bright green then orange as he tried to adapt his way out of his... predicament.

The team was whittling down the robot numbers, but there was still one more brute stuck behind a crowd of smaller robo-zombies.

Bruce took the punch with a grunt. Unfortunately for the robo-leader, doing so with a metal fist was like jamming a fork in an electrical socket. It wouldn't destroy the robot but it couldn't be good for its hardware. Bruce would take the probable opportunity to stab the robot and give it a proper jolt.

Stephanie dodged the spray of vile-smelling hydraulic fluid and sparks, but that unfortunately put her in easy grasp of the other arm that was swooping towards her. She was grappled once again and she growled angrily, taking notice of the approaching robo-zombies. She kicked at them as best as she could when they got close enough to her to start grabbing.

The robot stalled for a moment as it rebooted systems, which gave Bruce the opportunity he wanted. The jolt of electricity fried the robo-leaders circuits causing it to collapse limply to the ground. The robo-zombies of that leader's group subsequently froze, which included several of those approaching Stephanie. They were still operational and it was uncertain how long they'd remained out of commission.

This also gave Stephanie some breathing room as several of her kicks actually knocked over stalled zombies. That is of course before the brute wound up and attempted to toss throw. The wind up brought Stephanie past the robot's head, which had several antennas, visual sensors, etc.

Charles kept moving backwards towards the others fighting a steady retreat. The robo-brute was continuing it's pursuit and so Charles threw a robo-zombie at it's leg managing hit the knee joint. The joint cracked causing the robot to collapse. However, it seemed to be in the process of recovering with one of the legs changing position to allow it three legged movement instead of four.

Bruce smirked, "Shocking how that happens."

He proceeded to imagine a soundtrack as he charged for Charles' compromised position, happily smashing every robot in his way.

"Pardon me!" A robot's head went flying, trailing a spiral of sparks.

"Coming through!" Two robots were slammed into each other, bodies breaking.

"Just grabbing a bite!" A robot was lifted and torn open by many serrated teeth.

Steph's momentary elation at her kicks connecting was halted as she felt herself about to be thrown what she imagined to be a considerable distance. She tried to wrench herself free enough to reach out and grab at all of the important-looking sensor equipment on the robot's head, slashing with claws and snapping her jaws at anything she could reach.

Stephanie's attacks destroyed visual sensors, and other sensitive equipment on the robot's head. At first the robot seemed fine, though losing a couple visual sensors was certainly inconvenient, but then Stephanie's flurry of attacks hit some kind of control module in the robot's head. The robo-brute was fine one moment and then frozen completely the next. This left Stephanie in it's grip with robo-zombies clambering up towards her.

Robot's continued to close, but their numbers had dwindled quite substantially. The final robo-brute moved past Charles and advanced on Bruce. It locked it's hands together and attempted to bring them down on Bruce's head.

Bruce had lightened the pressure on Charles somewhat by drawing some of the robots towards him and his path of destruction. Giving Charles the time grapple with the robo-brute. As he locked up the brute's limbs tentacles grew from his back and chest and pushed between armored plates and joints. Charles roared as his tentacles tunneled into the brute's interior apparently lacking the inventory of one liners that Bruce had.

Bruce planted his feet and reached up to catch the giant hands. He promptly vanished in a cloud of dust as the ground around him cracked. A groaning Bruce appeared again as the dust cleared, defiantly holding back the blow with no shortage of effort. He roared and put all the force he could muster into pushing the arms aside.

The robot lost its balance with the push and fell. It caught itself with its hands, but was quite vulnerable to Bruce's inevitable follow up. However, it was regaining it was moving to regain its footing.

Stephanie sent pieces of the hand exploding outwards as she burst from the now inoperable robo brutes hand. The robo sombues continued to crawl towards her, but she could likely see the leader standing toward the back. The last leader on the field.

Charles pulled his robo brute inside out with a roar. Debris sprayed out around him as he ripped the robots 'skeleton' out and threw it into a group of robo zombies advancing on him. How regeneration was keeping up with the bruises, but he looked a little ragged after his retreat.

Steph's kick broke the robot as she propelled herself away from it. The robo-brute swung an arm in Stephanie's direction hoping to sweep her away so that it could stand up, but she had distracted it quite sufficiently for Bruce.

Toshiro Narumi wrote:Bruce huffed as he approached the big robot. He accelerated into a dash and attacked. Tosh would have identified important parts and targeted where to do the most damage. As Bruce, however, he just planned to bash at it with energized fists until it stopped moving.

Steph's distraction left the robot both distracted and vulnerable to Bruce's energized fists. Bruce's first blows dented in armored plates and slammed the robot the rest of the way to the ground. The follow up blows sent pieces of pavement and robot flying through the air. The robot attempted to lift an arm, but further follow up blows from Bruce ended even that resistance as he smashed control modules, hydraulics, and the robot's power core into the pavement. It wouldn't be long before Bruce stood over a rather unrecognizable and unmoving robo brute.

Charles for his part had finished off the remaining robo-zombies around him and the counter in the sky reached zero as Bruce pounded the robo-brute into the pavement. The sky flashed with the words 'wave 2 cleared'.
