[Nueroframe] The Pitch

So, here's a new idea.

The Short Pitch: A crew of human minds in replaceable robot bodies explores a distant planet to investigate a mysterious signal. And they aren't alone.

The Long Pitch: In the future, mankind has learned to digitize and copy the human mind. The process, unfortunately, is expensive. Those who can afford backup storage and the upkeep and periodic replacement of their synthetic bodies can become functionally immortal. Others can get a substantial discount on the technology by signing a service contract, volunteering a copy to be sent out on missions requiring long-distance space travel. Upon completion of a mission, non-classified memories are reintegrated. Or, if the original is deceased, the copy is allowed to persist. This allows for missions to be undertaken with both no true risk to human life and the increased odds of success, as the robotic bodies they inhabit can be tailored to the mission, survive harsh conditions, and be replaced in the event of catastrophic damage. Naturally, there is a risk of mental degradation but The Corporation assures that such a risk is minimal and manageable.

One such team has been dispatched to a distant world to investigate the source of a mysterious signal. Upon activation, the crew of the Uexküll finds they have landed on a world lush with life. To achieve their mission, the crew must navigate a treacherous wilderness full of hostile alien lifeforms, mysterious ruins, and other even stranger hazards.

The Stakes: Bodily destruction degrades the mind, and total destruction means that iteration is effectively dead. So, diminishing sanity and stakes that can only grow.

The Characters: Scientists, engineers, private security, and whatever other useful skillsets that might be selected for such an endeavor. And, of course, a mission commander.

Other Tech Level Stuff (WIP):
Sub-light travel, 1/3 lightspeed.
Armaments up to and including laser rifles. Nothing too powerful though.

And, of course, I'm open to suggestions.

You mention soldiers -- is the team being sent a military squad, or is it like Alien and the work for The Company?

A corporate operation. So, private security though that could mean ex-military. Going to edit that.
