[Halfway] Initial Concept

The place: A nexus in space-time, ripping individuals from their respective dimensions and timelines, to work as an interdimensional police force. Individuals chosen are selected for flexibility of mind and ability to get the job done or at least that’s the criteria the sentient AI in charge of the Rift claims to use. Assisted by Intercept, a mutant from Earth-1723, the AI monitors a slew of dimensions for dimensional destabilization and dispatches teams to deal with it. The Rift, as the group’s base is called, exists outside time and space and provides room, board, and recreation for the teams. Somehow it still gets decent television reception, though flipping through the channels is not for the faint of heart.

The people: Any potential variation of a character from whatever world you can come up with

The pitch: If you’re familiar with the Exiles, this concept rides closely to that, though with decidedly less Quantum Leap random jumping. The concept is for teams (large or small) to cross into a dimension to stabilize it and apprehend some villain trying to take advantage of the dimension’s structure or setting to do “bad things.”

Originally from Earth-1723, a world of advanced technological progress, Intercept is a mutant with technopathic abilities. More comfortable with the technology of her world than the people, she was happy when she was pulled into the Rift. She serves as the Rift's human caretaker, remaining within the facility's confines most of the time.

THR-35H-3R (Thresh, or as his doting engineer calls him, Shogo, after his source neural imprint) is a biomechanical combat robot rescued from being dismantled by the corporate overlords of Earth-2337. They tend to frown on their engineers putting the neural maps of dying relatives into their prototypes. Thresh now serves as a relentless hunter of those deemed a danger to the multiverse.

...and The Rift's mascot slash beer ambassador. This is why corporate reviews these things.

Dramatic Radio Announcer Voice
Earth 1077 - Nailah Weaver was just an ordinary Archaeology student at the Oxford Academy of Progress in the United Realms when circumstance threw her into adventure! Finding herself in a race against time as well as the forces of Fascist Germany she helped her Professor track down a forgotten Temple of Horus beneath the sands of Egypt! But what they found was beyond even their wildest imaginations! Ruins full of broken technology even beyond their galvanic and aetheric sciences, remnants of ancient aliens hidden away for millennia! Activating what she thought was a repository of knowledge she was suddenly infused with the legacy of the long-dead extraterrestrial beings. Rewriting her biology she found herself filled with a strange energy granting marvelous strength, amazing toughness and the capacity for flight! The Cosmic Power of Beings from beyond the stars!

Listed on the Rift roster as a "Primitive Earth Expert", probably in a fit of irony, Tere-za is a barbarian princess from Earth-10299, a world where magic is prevalent and technology has yet to catch up. With a penchant for fur and super-human strength and stamina, Tere-za could be easily dismissed as a brute. She's intelligent though and while she may not understand the ins and outs of the science of the Rift, she's adapted well to the work.

Sam comes from a world that has descended into anarchy due to a large outbreak of lycanthropy in Eurasia. In spite of being infected, Sam managed to avoid being co-opted into the roving packs that dominated the British Isles. Staying moving, Sam remained fiercely independent and gathered a bit of a reputation. It's believed that one of the team members approached Intercept and insisted they recruit Sam, but Intercept isn't saying which one.

by Basil Benson
Hailing from Earth 91679, Basil Benson was a veteran agent for MI-13 and their go to conman, secret villain party schmoozer, and catburgler. That is, until a mission in Latveria saw him captured by particularly wiley female intelligence officer (who Basil to this day maintains was tipped off, though he still can't seem to explain who at MI-13 sold him out or why).

Not one to be made a fool of, Doom demanded a public execution to make an example of the might of Doom with Basil as the sacrifice.

The noose on his neck and his options limited, Basil was more than happy to hop on board the family at the rift, though he still has paranoia and trust issues at times, particularly with females.

by Jezabelle Sherlock
Hailing from Earth-8311, Jezabelle Fetlock moved from her home with her father in New Pork City shortly after her mutant powers began manifesting as a teen, to live with her mother in the nation-state of Genhorseshoe. Under the leadership of the powerful Nagneto, the nation has become a refuge for mutants of all sorts, though a caste system has developed in which the more powerful enjoy civic liberties and privileges denied to those whose powers are not as useful or visually appealing. Jezabelle was lucky enough to have a power that Nagneto found useful, enough so that she even trained to become a member of the Nagistrates. If placed in a Cerebray-like construct, her duplication powers and mental control of her puppets were believed to be powerful enough that she could effectively create a inexhaustible one-mare-army to ensure Genhorseshoe never need to fear invasion from any outside force.

Personal events led to Jezabelle having to make a difficult decision, to live the rest of her life in depression and ostracization, or to risk death in attempting to escape her new home and live a life pursued by the very team she'd been training to become part of. At a crucial point in her life a third option presented itself. Now she operates as an outsider among outsiders under the codename Herd.

Will "Harmony" Stanton comes from a world of laughter, a world of art, a world of music. Conflicts -- even the harshest -- are settled through sudden bursts of creativity, as opposed to fisticuffs. In that universe, the rhythms and harmonies of music weave magic -- the most powerful able to use their voices to channel energy, to create objects and to influence actions and thoughts of those around them through sheer lyrical power.

On his Earth, Will was a known and in-demand songweaver, with lyric tunes able to sooth the savage beast. He is capable of projecting multiple illusionary copies of himself for complex harmonies and intricate ringing tones, boosting the power of his voice and allowing him to cast more complex musical spells. The copies are conveniently color-coded for your convenience. His voice can now be heard ringing through the Rift, though he's been asked to stop creating flowers in bloom or peaceful rays of moonlight in public areas.
