A Boy and his Blob

A beautiful beach-side town in a vaguely Californian climate full of colorful characters and whacky hijinks! Though at night not everything is as it seems...

At first, Basil didn't shy away from looking at her. It wasn't licentious so much as he was waiting for her to get dressed.

But then he realized he was staring at someone he hadn't seen naked before (?) and turned away.

"Sorry! Sorry!"

Colette of course didn't understand the boy's attitude. He had seen her without clothes for weeks when she was living under his bed and sliding around in the back yard, so she didn't see why now was any different. Still she was more preoccupied with getting the covering piece of clothing on than figuring out this mystery, the creature left with a drab yet stretched-in-places dress covering most of her form... and the yellow rain boots poking out from under the dress' hem of course.

Basil stared at her for several moments.

"... You look like Aunt Avigail after she started eating cat food and talking to the wall."

A groany laugh track was provided.

"Nevermind! It's temporary!

To the Mall!"

-----

The Mall proved to be a marketplace full of different clothes and accessories, as well as technologies that would seem rather primitive in the way that everything was to Colette.

Basil had stopped in front of what would look like a map to Colette.

"Where should we go? Do you want more jeans maybe? The pants like before?"

If Colette was reading she would see the word 'Food' next to the word 'Court' on there as well.

From another direction, Diego leaned out from behind a plant to sneak a better look. He was dressed in a black suit with totally non-obvious man in black sunglasses. He tapped his communicator.

"The bubblegum is on the shoe. I repeat, the bubblegum is on the shoe." Laughter.

Colette grumped and stared at the map. None of the store names meant anything to her. She looked down at her yellow rain boots and then at the other denizens of the palace. None of them wore this type of bipedal vestiment as far as she could see, at least not this particular model. She lifted her leg and stuck it straight out, pointing at her boot.

"Pbbt?"

Colette's legs stretched a bit before catching up to her as she was whisked off into another montage sequence, set to appropriate music. It was complete with scenes of her stepping out of changing rooms over and over again in various outfits; be they padded-shouldered business attire or baggy hip hop clothing, with Basil shaking his head each time. Between fitting room segments it was broken up by scenes of the two of them getting chased out of stores, posing as mannequins, and attempts by Colette to sneak off to the food court.

By the end of it the camera panned up from Colette's feet to her head, the goo girl from another world dressed in some white and pastel coloured zebra striped high tops, Sheer and semi-translucent black leggings under a black leotard, with a purple miniskirt and pastel green t-shirt with a neon palm tree sunset on the chest. The whole ensemble was topped off with a purple neon sun visor and some sunglasses she won from a crane game. Somewhere along the way she'd gotten ahold of some grape-flavoured bubble gum and was chewing an entire package's worth of the stuff.

Diego's communicator, which just so happened to look like a smartphone, chimed and requested a video chat. He grimaced at the caller ID and answered.

"Yes, Lieutenant Asani?" he answered, telling himself not to let the perpetually annoyed purple-skinned woman get to him this time.

"Za'Pata..." she said with an annoyed sigh, "Why did you send us an empty containment sphere? You said you caught that rogue merc."

"What? He should have... oh no..." he said worriedly.

"Are you telling me you..."

"Sorry! Gotta go!" he interrupted, hanging up. He tapped his earpiece and, in a contained panic, said, "Abort! Don't activate the sphere!"

The blob was a sitting duck with that gum and in her enthusiasm she had already sprung what she thought was an empty trap on the unsuspecting victim.

The red and white sphere thrown by Chisaki rolls to a stop at Colette's feet and pops open with a bright, disorienting flash. When the effect clears, a reptilian humanoid stands towering over the two shoppers. He looks like a volcano of angry muscle wrapped in orange scales.

"This... isn't prison," reads the subtitles of the booming voice who Chisaki can identify as Apo Fiss, former boss of the Sun Eater mercenaries that they had captured with a great effort and even greater amount of property damage. Whoops.

Even with her cheap plastic shades on Colette had to shield her eyes, even if she didn't really have eyes... semantics. She stared up at the creature through her visor and then looked to Basil.

"Moo?" She asked, her tone asking the boy if this was a normal event in the capitalist pleasure palace of the God-King known as Mall.

Colette shot Basil a very puzzled look. What a strange thing for him to call her. And yet despite him never having used the word before it somehow felt familiar. So after a moment's delay, and with other mall goers beginning to scream and panic she turned and booked it - even though her body wasn't really proportioned for running.

"Hey! Get back here!" the lizard roars, now in English, turning to give chase. He stops, however, when a bolt of energy hits the map display by his head.

"Oh for the love of Glob..." he groans, "How am ever going to live with the shame of being caught by you two churgleflarbs."

He grins maliciously. "Killing everyone here is a start!" he bellows before ripping the map display free of the floor and flinging it hard at Chisaki, shrugging off Diego's pathetic blaster fire.

Chisaki wasn't entirely certain what happened next, but rather suddenly she felt a rush of adrenaline as a cloud of planter soil ripped itself free of a row of indoor trees, one of which slapped the map display out of the way.

The soil splayed out at her feet on the mall's tile floor, but she didn't spend too much time thinking about it and went for her own blaster to try to lay down some suppression fire.

Diego regarded his ineffectual blaster and smacked his forehead in the universal sign of "I'm a dumb-ass." He took it off stun and went back to shooting.

Fiss reacted quickly to the unexpected development and took cover behind a fountain. He needed a weapon. That was when he noticed a display in the nearby sporting goods store. He bolted for it and crashed through the glass. Glob bless America.

Colette stumbled as she was pulled by Basil, going with him for a few steps before she realized he was going in a different direction than where she intended. She dug in her heels and tried to pull Basil in the other direction, but it just caused her arm to slip through his grip since, you know, no bones or anything. Instead she grabbed him by his collar and tried to pull him toward her intended destination, the Radio Shack.

Fiss suddenly flings a bicycle at her and vaults behind the gun counter. A store worker is casually tossed back over with a Wilhelm scream and Fiss can be heard laughing. "Now this is my kind of planet!" he roars joyously as he rises dual-wielding automatic rifles and firing. He suddenly had a lit cigar in his teeth too.

Colette looked around the store kind of like a rat trying to make it's way through a maze, grabbing seemingly random items which she began stacking on the counter. Once she had a good dozen different things she started by tearing the plastic casing off of a boombox tube, fiddling with the insides before she began shoving transistors inside the thing.

The clerk at the counter started to voice their displeasure, but the sound of gunfire outside helped to convince them that it was for the best if they made a quick exit to the storage room in the back.

Colette was busy banging out something that was beginning to look like some kind of modern art project, the guts of the boombox filled with an array of capacitors, resistors, and all other sorts of components she'd been grabbing off of the parts shelves. The display of the stripped-down Tandy computer displayed what looked to be gibberish and flickers intermittently. She kept smacking it as she hooked a rainbow tangle of printer cables to the back of the thing, joining them to a kitschy popcorn maker. She let out a dissatisfied "Pbbt" looking to the various batteries and power cords without seeming to find much satisfaction.

As the fight goes on a ripple seems to suddenly spread through the mall. It's like the surface of everything suddenly turns into little tiles or polygons that flip and spin briefly before settling back into place. The wave swallows up most people in the mall, briefly causing Fiss to flicker but ultimately leaving him standing along with Diego, Chisaki, Basil and Colette the Blob. Everyone else is just gone.

Re: A Boy and his Blob

Postby Colette Rosenhof » Thu Feb 22, 2018 1:13 am

It was a shame that everyone else was gone, because while all of the fighting was going on the blob (and her henchman Basil) had been very busy. In the relative quiet of the mall there was the sound of an engine attempting to start, and then revving to the point of redlining. Over by the Radio Shack a 90's Nissan that had been on display in the mall had it's hood open and a set of jumper cables running from the engine, the gas tank having been filled with old fryer grease from the food court from the look of the discarded buckets laying near it and the black smoke pouring out of the exhaust. Some kind of makeshift magnetic motor had been rigged up on one of the rear wheels, a corkscrew of extension cords running from the shuddering contraption to the even more bizarre "art piece" made out of just about every transistor and resistor in the parts shop, and a few plasma balls as well for good measure. A dull whining grew into a surreal ethereal humming that still grew louder and louder, pieces of paper being blow into the air and poofing into ash as they were set on fire by stray arcs of electricity from the forward-facing speaker of the boombox tube.

Colette's sunglasses dropped down over her eyes and she blew a large purple bubble of gum. When it popped she threw back the lever on the top of the contraption, which spat out what looked like a strange cross between ball lightning and the inside of a plasma ball, but of an electric blue colour. And of her three possible targets, it seemed to be traveling toward Fiss.

The NPC labeled Fiss doesn't seem to notice the mall vanishing. He does, however, see the ball of electric death flying at him.

"Well flarb," he says, eyes wide. He runs, of course. It's what one does. But soon there is a bright flash and a scream and a charred skeleton clatters to the floor. It too glitches and falls out of existence.
