After successfully returning from their second successful mission (in a row!), Captain Brooks made the unofficial grouping of her junior officers more...official.

"Out in the field," she had said to the assembled junior officers, "It's important to have an excellent sense of teamwork. You have to be able to rely on one another; understand what each other will be doing at a moment's notice. The six of you have demonstrated an ability to do that, time after time. Removing the temporal weapon from the disintegrating Jefferson and getting out in one peace was a remarkable piece of work. It's a pity we couldn't salvage the ship itself, or capture whoever it was who actively stole it, but it was still a tremendous piece of work.

From this point on, you six will comprise Beta Shift. You'll report to Commander Stevens as a supervisor, but we'll be assigning you as a cross-departmental task force for a wide variety of functions, befitting your unique skill sets.
