Melody "Sylph" Malcolm

Melody "Sylph" Malcolm

Postby Melody Malcolm » Mon Jul 20, 2015 3:00 am

Name: Melody Malcolm

Codename: Sylph

Age: ....29.

Power: Melody is not bound by the whims of gravity and can achieve unaided levitation or flight at will. The effect seems to be the result of some form of manipulation of Molly’s own personal gravitational field, but the effect is very poorly understood.

Rumors about any other abilities are scurrilous lies being spread by ne'er-do-wells. Students would do well to pay them no heed.

Description: Molly is tall and thin with long blonde hair. She has a habit in dressing in vintage fashions, particularly clothes from the 20's and 30's. During the day, she usually wears a cloak with a hood.

Background: Melody was born in the year 1915. She was the daughter of an upper-class merchant and often traveled the world with him and her mother, having all sorts of adventures. Usually involving smugglers pretending to be ghosts or some rot.

When Melody was 21, she and her family were in London, calling on some friends in the city. While returning from a delightful evening in the Strapford's parlor, Melody was accosted by a low-life criminal and dragged into an alley. He sank his teeth into her neck and began drinking her blood. A weakened Melody struggled, but was unable to fight him off.

This was the catalyst for her mutant powers awakening. Nearly drained of blood, Melody's powers let her fly away from her attacker and back to the hotel her family was staying in.

When they found her in the morning, she was dead. Three days later, she awoke in a morgue with a powerful appetite for blood.

The next few decades were a dark time for Melody. She lived in a state between hedonistic, dark appetites and self-loathing. She fed freely from people while her reputation and powers grew.

In 1966, Melody was approached by a doctor and scientist, Dr. Martin Malcolm. He managed to capture her and began studying her condition. He found that Melody was unique to other vampires. Her genetic mutations impaired the self-replicating factor that made vampirism extremely difficult to treat. In 1969, Dr. Malcolm finished creating the formula for a serum that would be able to manage her condition.

The formula is only temporary. She has to take it every twenty-four hours or the cravings will return. It also has some side effects. It inhibits almost all of her vampiric abilities completely, but only lessens her sensitivities to things like silver, garlic, or sunlight.

After being treated, Melody began working with Dr. Malcolm to research other "supernormal creatures and conditions". The two of them became very close during their travels. In 1974, they were married. They would stay together until Dr. Malcolm's death in 1988.

Melody continued her husband's work for the next two decades. Over time, she became connected with X-Corp, working as a consultant. Recently, she was offered a position as a live-in consultant, instructor, and counselor for the University, which she accepted despite reservations about how well she would deal with children. Of course, these days, everyone she meets seems like a child. Relatively, at least.

Well, we let Ninja Harry Potter (back) in, so there's the mystical precedence and I strongly suspect that Miss Malcolm's personality will do much to offset the 2edgy-factor of a vampire faculty member. (We already have a reformed villain and Double-X-Chromosome Wolverine to fulfill that quota.)
