Rory Archer-Stardust

Postby Rory Archer » Sat Sep 03, 2016 11:57 pm

Name: Rory Archer
Codename: Stardust
Age: 21
Country of Origin: England
Hometown: Ramsey, Mereside
Birthday: optional

Power: Rory has the ability to convert ambient energy (negligible energies always present around us like background radiation, heat kinetic energy, light, etc) into a physical matter/energy particle he has termed stardust. This stardust is a fine grain particle that appears as dust or sand when inert, though it’s colorations varies from dark indigos to shining white. Rory is able to control the stardust he creates, which when active appears like swirling galaxies as the particles interact with one another. He can direct it with his mind to condense or spread it over an area, and even form simple shapes out of it(basic shapes, not actual objects). These particles can be detonated to create miniature explosions of conclusive force and light, each few grains having the maximum force of a firecracker, though when condensed, this can add up to a much more potent blast. The strength of a blast depends on how much stardust is detonated at once, though generally Rory is comfortable with less destructive bursts that can injure but not kill.

Rory’s stardust can be used offensively or defensively, Rory can block or divert attacks while Stardust is in it’s physical form, and attack by detonating stardust in various ways, or condensing it into a physical projectile to launch at an opponent. He is able to focus the direction of a blast, allowing him to shape the impact, or implode it to create blinding bursts of light. He can use this to launch himself by creating directed explosions beneath him, and cushion his fall with stardust. He can also use stardust to levitate somewhat, though this is limited and he cannot actually fly with it.

Rory can only create stardust within a 10 foot radius of himself, after which, he can direct it anywhere within eyesight. Any Stardust that is not detonated will disperse into residual energy over a 12 hour period. Though able to control large amounts of Stardust, creating large amounts takes time as the rate he can create is dependent on his concentration and focus, generally allowing him to create a buckets worth or stardust within a few moments. Also, controlling large amounts becomes more difficult it he is trying to do any type of multitasking with it, such as directing it against several individual opponents.

Rory uses his conducting skills to focus this abilities, usually forming a conducting wand out of stardust which acts as his focal point for stardust creation. Rory is not immune to the effects of his own explosions, though instinctively he will direct the force away from himself to prevent self injury at close range.

Personality: Rory is an easy going and creative individual, slow to anger and generally accepting of people despite any fault they may have. He avoids conflict when he can, and looks for peaceful solutions before resorting to violence, however he is also slow to stick up for himself in the face of conflict, easily overpowered by stronger voices in a group, unsure of himself and his place among others. Despite his powers, he doesn’t think himself better or superior to others, and will generally do his best to try and make others happy before himself.

Because of this, he is more introverted than outgoing, preferring his own thoughts and space in his free time, though he does enjoy casual and stimulating conversations. He likes classical music, and seeks to compose his own, as well as conducting in music groups when they are available. However, he understand that this does not pay the bills and seeks to be a teacher of musical theory and composition, and thus studies hard to accomplish that goal.

Description: Caucasian male with sunned skin, a smaller build of someone who, while in shape, is not a body builder, he is slim and more wiry, a lighter build then average. His hair is a chestnut brown, usually parted at one side or slicked back, though it tends to become more spikes and wild, refusing to keep it’s hold for long periods. His eyes are a startling, piercing light blue, almost luminescent in color.

Rory prefers to look somewhat decent, preferring styles that look neat and clean. He tends towards colored long sleeve shirts in blacks, browns and blues with matching pants and shoes.

Background: There was not much dramatic in Rory’s life growing up, the 2nd child of his parents, with two brothers and a sister. His life was pretty unremarkable, a simple boy going to school, doing chores, having fun with his siblings, and getting into as much trouble with them as was typical of kids. The Archers were nobody important, though they had their talents and hobbies like anyone else. Music seemed to run in the family, each having a preference to certain instruments and genres. Rory himself preferred classical music, and learned how to play the violin and piano. With an ear for music, he liked to right and compose songs, and as he grew, he tended towards classes that enhanced this appreciation for music as well as learning a fair bit about conducting. As a youth, he sometimes dreamed of becoming a famous maestro, however, like with many dreams it was a far fetched one. While talented, he was not on the same level as famous composers, the best he could hope to do would be to teach music, with his composing and conducting as a side job.

His simple life became more complicated when his powers manifested. He was conducting in a fundraiser when stardust started appearing around him. The audience thought it was part of the show, though both Rory and the musicians didn’t know what was going on, though they kept their composure until the show ended. Afterwards, Rory was confronted by the musicians who questioned him, though he had no answers. They left it at that, but as Rory was heading home, he was ambushed by some of the less openminded of the group. Still new to his powers, Rory panicked, his powers flaring, causing a series of explosions as he manifested stardust and detonated it. Unfocused it caused little damage, but it was enough to scare off the men. Rory was left bewildered and a bit scared at what had happened, but it was obvious that he would need to learn to control his powers.

Between school and music practice, Rory began trying to control his abilities. It was difficult at first, but then he began using his conducting experience as a focus to shape his abilities. Over the next few years he began gaining some idea of what his powers were capable of. He continued to pursue his music goals and used his powers to add a bit more special effects when conducting to create atmosphere when it was appropriate, though this began attracting a bit more negative attention when the wrong people put two and two together. Rory became a target, though he never went seeking trouble, it tended to find him more often then not.

However, things changed when he was approached by the Xavier University, who offered him a safe place to both continue his education and learn more about controlling his abilities.

The grounds crew has expressed concerns to me about the ramifications of allowing cosmic detritus to litter campus, but I find myself confident enough to give Approval 2/2.
