Sean followed Hannah into the brush.

"This is where the wisp was?" Sean asked.

"No wisps... not anymore..." she mutters in response as she keeps moving, getting ahead of Sean on account of not having to physically push through the underbrush. The light of the sun is fading fast now and it's getting difficult to follow Hannah.

"You're going to need to slow down. Not all of us just... pass through solid objects, Hannah," Sean says as he does his best to push through the underbrush and follow the ghost. He's fairly confident he could find his way out of the woods, but he also wasn't going to just leave the ghost in the wilderness alone either even if she couldn't technically die.

Unfortunately, Hannah doesn't seem to hear him and soon she's disappeared in the woods.

But far in the distance, Sean can see a faint light bouncing and swinging between the trees, casting an eerie glow.

Sean looks around the woods and sighs dramatically before beginning to walk towards the faint light bouncing between the trees.

"Following a ghost into the haunted woods..." Sean grumbled.

There's a sudden shrill shriek that pierces the woods, accompanied by the light bouncing in an agitated manner. As he gets closer he can spot an oddity in the light. The way it's casting light has odd shadows to it and it takes Sean a moment to realize it's because the light is shining from a lantern that's swinging back and forth.

Suddenly something grabs his leg just above the ankle and when he looks down he spots Hannah, lieing on the ground, half-hidden by the undergrowth and the darkness. Her other hand is clutching her neck and he can see the edges of torn flesh between her fingers

Sean freezes upon hearing the shriek. Hannah grabbing his ankle causes Sean to nearly jump out of his skin. He manages to suppress a scream instead exhaling loudly through clenched teeth.

"What happened?" Sean asks as he reaches for his bag and first aid kit before realizing that it probably will not help a ghost. He nervously puts everything back and instead examines Hannah while drawing on ambient magic around him. At the very least he should be able put Hannah back together somehow, maybe? It's also possible he's just trying to distract himself from the very real fear he's feeling about being out in the woods with something that seriously injured a ghost.

Hannah gurgles something, blood spilling out of her mouth as she tries to point into the woods. Following her arm Sean spots the light that has gotten really close. Too close. A heavy metal lantern filled with dancing lights that's hanging from a long staff is being swung at his head, sending him sprawling into the undergrowth.

Sean sees stars for a moment after the lantern hits him and he scrambles through the undergrowth trying to put some distance between himself and their attacker. He can feel blood trickling down the side of his head. He gathers some blood as he scrambles and begins a spell. The words cause the undergrowth to wither and die, a bird falls from a tree blood leaking from it's eyes. He looks over his shoulder for the attacker hoping to not fire a spell blindly into the woods.

He can see a shape of some kind moving in the shadows, obscured by the light shining from the lantern dangling from the long staff it's holding. Inside the lantern numerous lights are floating around, bouncing against the glass and the top as if they were trying to escape. Sean can hear a faint snarl as the lantern lashes out at him again.

Sean flicks his bloodied hand towards the long staff and a jagged bolt of red energy arcs between the blood droplets. Sean tries to to target the staff and the looming threat of getting pummeled by a pixie prison.

Sean's blast knocks the lantern aside enough to pass over his head. For a moment Sean can make out a face so emaciated it borders on simply being a skull, it's thin fingers clutching the staff with the bouncing lantern.

"...all mine..." it croaks out, the voice gurgling in it's throat.

"Well, we weren't about to bloody well nick them," Sean growled as he harnessed magical energy for a new spell. He growled several words in an unnamed language while drawing a large circle in the air with his hands. Golden light trails his hands and runes form in the air as the spell coalesces. The ground heaves as multiple hands made of earth and dirt reach up from the ground trying to pull the, whatever it was wielding the lantern was, down into the dirt.

The ground here is soft and the conjured arms grasp the creature and drag it down into the soil easily. The ground swallows up the lights bouncing in the creature's lantern and for a moment that seems to have been it. Until something lights up the dark woods again a couple paces away, the lantern being thrust from the earth and the sinewy bogman crawling out of the ground after it.

"Now that's... that should have been predictable since it bloody well lives in a bog," Sean groused seeing the creature pull itself out of the muck. He begins readying another spell, fire wrapping around his arms as the spell forms. Despite his complaining Sean's body language is aggressive and he begins advancing towards the creature as it pulls itself out of the ground hoping that fire resolves things better than dragging it down into the dirt did.

The creature waves it's staff and some of the flames part around it, singing some branches around it, but some of the blaze coils around the staff and follows it back to the creatures sinewy hands and they catch on fire almost immediately. Most things are vulnerable to fire when it comes down to it, but the dried out husk living in a peaty bog goes up like cinders. It shrieks, lantern flailing wildly as it stumbles back and forth until it finally collapses in a smoke heap. And as the fire fades and tendrils of smoke curl up from what remains of the creature a different kind of light takes it's place. The gloomy blue glow of it's lantern seems to spread as the numerous wisps inside are released and briefly dance through the air, around tree trunks and branches before darting deeper into the woods and slowly fading into the night.

Sean watches the wisps depart and considers the corpse of the creature quietly. Seeing that it's not likely to get up again he begins a brisk walk back to where Hannah was hoping that she wasn't dead-er.

"Hannah?" Sean questions creating a small ball of light to help guide him through the underbrush.

Hannah is sitting up, one hand still on her throat but less desperately so. She pulls her bloodstained hand away with a small cough, but the gaping wound seems to have disappeared.

"I... think that's the thing that killed me... I can't believe it was still here..."
